Why Okapi Home?

Like many people, one of things that drew us both to Africa was the amazing wildlife. We have both been lucky enough to see the “big five”, along with all sorts of other wonderful species on our travels, however, the Okapi - also known as the “forest giraffe” - has always eluded us. In fact, few people we've met have even heard of the Okapi.

That might be because it is extremely rare, found only in a remote corner of the Democratic Republic of Congo and is, due to its shy nature, almost impossible to spot in the wild. In 2013, the Okapi was officially classified as Endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species.

By borrowing the Okapi’s name, we hope to play just a small part in raising the profile of its plight, whilst at the same time, incorporating some of the Okapi’s uniqueness within our own products.
