Brass and Cow Horn Coaster Set, Light

Okapi Home

Made with ethically sourced cow horn, this beautiful set of four coasters sit perfectly in a mid-century inspired brass holder. Valued for both its hardness and its ability to become soft and pliable when heated, Ankole cattle horn has been used by East Africans for centuries. Each coaster was cut by hand, shaped and molded at high temperatures, meticulously sanded, and then polished for a smooth and shiny finish.

Handcrafted by a metalsmith in Kampala, the brass holder was cut out by hand from a 4mm brass sheet. It was flattened, heated, shaped, and then buffed and polished to a high-shine.

Each coaster set is individually hand-crafted by an artisan in a fair trade environment in Uganda. Imperfections should be expected and simply add to the charm of the product.

Our range of coaster sets, which would make the perfect gift for someone special, are supplied by Ugandan based design and craft studio, Rose & Fitzgerald.

Each set includes 4 coasters.

Additional Details:

  • Each coaster set is made from 100% pure brass and 100% Ankole cow horn, locally sourced in Uganda.
  • Each brass holder measures approximately 6.5 cm tall and 11.5 cm wide. Each coaster measures approximately 0.5 cm tall (a slight variation in size is expected).
  • Over time, the pure brass will take on a patina that will make the piece uniquely yours. If you prefer to maintain its original sheen, a brass polish may be used. Because the coasters are made of pure horn, which is made up of keratin protein, there are special considerations for their proper care. If necessary, wipe clean with a soft cloth. It is important to avoid leaving your horn items near heat sources or in direct sunlight, as warm temperatures can cause the horn to dry out or change shape.
