Today is Tuesday 30th June 2015. In 140 days, on Tuesday 17th November 2015 Okapi Home will launch.
There we go, it’s public, we are committed.
Over the next 140 days (and far beyond) we want to create a community where we can learn from one another. By sharing every step of our story we hope to cast a light on the realities of starting a business but we want this to be a two way process and hear your thoughts, insights and experiences too, so please get in touch via our social media channels. I have no doubt we’ll need your help and support along the way!
If you’ve ever thought about starting out on your own we're sure you’ve Googled something along the lines of “how to start a business” and maybe you’ve then moved onto “how to build an online audience”. Suddenly you can find yourself reading an article entitled “10 ways to run a husky sled business”, without a clue on how you got there. The internet can be a great resource but it can also swallow you up. It's a procrastinator’s paradise.
So, over the coming 140 days we will share the story of how Okapi Home, our new homeware brand which will be sourcing its products from some of Africa’s most skilled artisans, goes from little more than a concept right through to (we hope!) a fully fledged business.
